Both our Dyson V7 hand vacuums will only run on the low setting, and turn off moments after switching to “max suction”. We tried new filters and cleaning the air passages of each unit, but the limited output remained.We then concluded that the +7 year old batteries do not have the same output they once did. Rather than buying Dyson branded batteries we decided to try using the many DeWalt batteries we already have.This conversion was very easy to install, only three screws. We found initially that the 2 amp hour (AH) DeWalt battery does not have enough amperage to run “Max Suction” mode for more than a few seconds. The Red light illuminates on the conversion unit, indicating low power, even though the 2AH battery is fully charged. The 2AH does work well on the low suction mode though.Looking at the removed Dyson battery, we noted the battery is rated for 2800mah (2.8AH), so this lead to us trying a DeWalt battery greater than this.Installing a 9AH battery worked much better and we were able to vacuum ~1500sqft on “Max Suction” before needing to recharge. Definitely worth the money, if you already have DeWalt batteries equal to or greater than the manufacturers original battery (see picture).
