If I could add an additional star to this review, I would. I have used this shopvac for just about everything, including non vacuuming projects. Yeah, the component holder tbat many have given only 4 stars for is annoying, but fact they put one on in the first place, and that when you put the components in the right slots hold them without any issues, and that everything works above my standards, they get 5 stars. But lo and behold, I discovered another use that has come in so handy, there absolutely needs to be a 6th star!!!!Why rate a vacuum higher than normal standard? Because I found a MUCH better use that is so satisfying, it turned an annoying chore, into a satisfying game, where the little buggers score is 0, and my score about 233 as of this writing! Oops, make that now 235! Never knew a shop vac could be so satisfying! And no, I dont mean Scary Movie satisfying either. Im talking annoying house flies!!! Discovered the one thing they cant avoid!!!!So how well does this shop vac kill/catch flies? Let me tell you, with the heat wave we had the past few days, and work getting done on old sewer lines has caused a lot more flies to be around as it is. On top of that, my kids AC just died so ordering a new one. In the mean time, kept windows open with a fan to circulate the air, and one of the screens got torn due to one of our cats. On top of that its my kids birthdays. One right after the other. So took them out to celibrate and totaly forgot to close the window. When we got home, my daughter pointed at the ceiling. When I looked up, my eyes widened in horror! Hundreds of dots littered the ceiling, and a few flew by my face where there was light. I have never seen so many flies in one place. We each grabbed an electronic fly swatter, which sadly, Amazon no longer sells this model, and started swinging at ones airborn, and at ceiling to get them moving so they could be zapped as well. There was so many, the coils started burning and melting! On top of that, I noticed an open box of cerial my kids left out fallen over with the contents on the floor in hard to reach places. I then get the shop vac and go to use it to get all the cerial cleaned up. As Im vacuuming up the cerial, a few flies go buzzing by my head so point the hose with adapter on it near me where the little huggers are, and see them get pulled in. I get an idea, and put the 3 hose extenders on, with the attachment for corners, then raise it by each of the dots on the ceing. I knew I might get only a few, and that many more will just fly away, but to my surprise, that didn't happen!! Not sure why, but it was as if they couldnt see the vacuum hose comming. Moment the head of the vacuum came within 3 inches of a fly, it got sucked in!!!! And because of the filter and disposable vacuum bag, they went jn, but not out. Most of the flies didn't move until it was to late and got sucked in. Its the few that took off that made me extremely happy with the vacuums capabilities. If the vacuum head was withing 4 inches of a fly when it took off, the fly did not get away!!!! Moment it took off, it was a gonner and sucked right in!!! Within an hour, our home was completely free of flies. I actually took a tally as each one went in. What was even stranger, was listening to my two children bicker over who got to vacuum next. Trying to get my kids to help with vacuuming, is like having a tooth pulled. They normally bicker on whose turn it is just to avoid the chore. This time they both wanted to get in on the fly removal so was totaly different. What was even more shocking was the fact they had been anxious to get home to play the new video game I bought them for their birthday that they have wanted for a year now, and chose the fly cleanup instead! Heck, I even asked them if they were my kids, or alien clones lol. My son told me to leave the window open again to let more flies in. I said noooooo! But Id be lying if I said I wasn't thinking the same thing. During breaks, I put a plastic bag over the bose with two rubberbands, then took the shop vac out side and threw the bag out so if any escaped, least not in my house. Best part, was clean and no mess, no cooked fly smell as you get when using a electric fly swatter. Our 5-year old unit burned up through no fault in the machine. I knew that I was pushing the machine past its design capabilities by hooking it up to my concrete grinder. I was sure that I was going to kill it, and I eventually did. Breaking the machine down, super fine concrete dust had penetrated the bearings and motor windings.I liked the unit so much that I bought the identical model. I plan on using the old canister and accessories and storing the new ones.I have two large machines as well but it's nice having a small machine around.Good and practicalGood product I love itThere are $200 shop vacs and there are inexpensive ones like this. It does its job. The design of the 'tool holder' leaves a bit to be desired, but again, the tool does its job. Also, there's zero packaging between the box and the cannister, so mine came with a small ding. It mostly hammered out, but still. It is a shop vac for the garage, not the centerpiece of my kitchen.I love this brand. Dependable.good enough vacuum just to bad like many manufactures its about how much they can get away to cheapen them up, with like the fact it doesn't come with a two dollar muffler which you need and have to purchase separately otherwise OKNothing to dislike ..just smaller than I thought it was going to be.I bought this mainly to vacuum up small wood chips around my wood stove. I have a connection going through the wall of my house that I can connect the outlet to so if I do get a bit of ash sucked up in there that makes it past the filter, it won't get blown all over the room. The first time I used it, it was hooked up to the outside connection, but still blew ash dust all over the place. My 20 year old Craftsman didn't have this problem. When I looked carefully, I found that it has a small gap between the plastic housings (not between the can and the vacuum head, but the actual housing of the vacuum head itself) that allows a lot of exhaust air to escape rather than all of it going out through the exhaust port. If you're picking up larger bits of matter with this thing, it's great. It's surprisingly powerful for its size. If you're vacuuming fine particulate matter that may make it past the filter, then expect it to be blown into the air even if you use an extra exhaust hose vented to the outside like I did.Great little shop vacuum with plenty of suction power for its size. Makes some noise but that can be reduced with the installation of a muffler attachment available for any shop vacuum with a 2" blower port. On-board tool storage is well designed. The motor has a separate cooling fan (as all proper shop vacuums should have) which increases durability but as the owner's manual recommends, a filter MUST always be installed.Update: Had this vacuum for 4 months now and it appears that I have a bad motor bearing. Never abused and as indicated above, a filter always in place. Just sent a warranty support request to ShopVac Canada. Hope for an easy resolution.Great suction power and overall good quality. However has a number of downside points: a very short power cord, a very narrow 1.25 hose diameter, a floor nozzle that gets stuck to floors so it is impossible to use it, and capacity that is too small. Looking back, I would probably go with the 8-10+ gallon model. The filter pretty much takes all the space inside the vacuum's body and does not leave a lot of room for the collected dust/waste.Not a bad product. It does work but there's little to no place to put the attachments other than the floor. The placements for it is flimsy and annoying to attach to it to the vacuum. Wished the designers thought of this. Still, the power is good and it's good for the price. Just a bit annoying to put dirty attachments on the floor/carpet.A lot of stuffs are missing. Horrible packaging. I watched a YouTube view about it. It comes with in plastic wrap. Mine did not. Following items are missing:- No wheels?- Crevice Tool.- Gulper Nozzle.- Floor Nozzle.- Cartridge Filter.- Foam Sleeve.
