UPDATE 8 July 2017: Well I have no idea if this is permanent or temporary since Amazon is pushing a newer model but as of this date they are selling them direct once more but my warning of Mar still stands to make sure who you are buying any model Dyson from and just for FYI mine is still running like a champ with no problems. Small note: If you have dogs (like I do) you might want to read the manual and see how to disassemble the head and canister (they are easy once you see how) since mine developed a bit of an odor due to a buildup of dog hair from one of mine. Not a big deal but easy to fix if you have this problem BUT do not reassemble this thing wet (hard lesson learned) or you will have to get Dyson to send you a new filter (not expensive but would have been fine if allowed to dry correctly) :)WARNING!!! 15 March 2017 - Since my last update it seems that Amazon no longer sells these directly since this was added to the page - "Note: This item is only available from third-party sellers" - So read the below Permanent note closely and make sure you have a warranty!PERMANENT NOTE: I decided to add this note to the top of the review because so many companies were selling this Dyson and I have no way of knowing who is an authorized dealer other than Amazon, so this is just a warning to make sure you have a valid warranty (DYSON DOES NOT HONOR WARRANTIES ON PRODUCTS PURCHASED FROM NON-AUTHORIZED DEALERS). I will update this note on a as needed basis. At random times some companies are under-cutting Amazon price by a few dollars and when that happens chances are you won't have any warranty if you click on the big "Add to Cart" button, go over to the right side of the page and click the "Add to Cart" next to Amazon if you want to make sure you have a warranty. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHO YOU ARE ACTUALLY BUYING FROM. If someone other than Amazon is the low price on the day you can purchase or buy from Amazon using the "Sold by Amazon" button on the right side of your screen.NOTE: 5 December 2016 - Amazon is selling these at a great price of $299 (free shipping if you are Prime) but sadly "Usually ships within 1 to 2 months" so hopefully you don't need it fast or you will have to buy it from other sellers and may or may not actually have a warranty since only with Amazon can you be assured you actually have a warranty. (see below Permanent Note) also had this model for about 24 months now and it still works perfectly (as do the one I bought 6+ years ago and the one I bought 3 years ago)NOTE 10 Sept 2016 - Just a comment, I had accidentally sucked up some small pieces of balsa wood in my Dyson and it clogged the tube but I went to their website to check how to unclog it and WOW, they actually have a spring-loaded trap door at the bottom of the tube assembly, all you have to do is pull it back and most clogs will drop out and you can pull any other out with your fingers. No tools required, just thought it was a nice touch I have never had to use in all my years of owning a Dyson.I never saw the day coming when I would write a 5 Star review for a vacuum cleaner but here it is. I already own 2 Dyson models in 2 different houses that are similar to this (but they are over 6 years old) and they have about as much power today as when I bought them. The price I got this for ($269 on sale here at Amazon) was pretty much unbeatable and this model weighs a few pounds less than my old ones so rather than keep carrying it up the stairs I decided to get another one to use upstairs and in case of the unlikely event that one of the others dies on me.You see all those other commercials about "Just as good" or sometimes even "better than a Dyson" and common sense should tell you that if they all compare themselves to a Dyson then there is a valid reason, they ARE the best. After trying about a dozen other models over the years we have never found anything that works as well or as dependably. The fact that they never stop supporting their models (meaning if a brush wears out or you break an attachment, Dyson will sell you one and in some cases give you one).If there is one thing I have learned in my 6 decades on this Earth, you pay for what you get and you get what you pay for in life. There are very few cases where the cheaper model of anything is as good as the more expensive model. Vacuum cleaners are NOT one of those exceptions to this rule. It maneuvers better, is sustains suctions better and it lasts better so if you like buying less expensive, poorer performing vacuums, ignore this and save a few bucks today that you will be wishing you had spent later. The fact that it weighs less than before is just another thing in favor of a Dyson. (Product Dimensions: 42.4 x 13.4 x 15.4 inches ; 17.3 pounds)You DO get what you pay for in this life.UPDATE: NOTE: My comments ONLY reflect my opinion of this model, some other Dyson models are not as well rated.(THE FOLLOWING I WROTE IN RESPONSE TO A COMMENT) "every impartial testing organization ranks all Dyson vacuums as sub-par" - actually that is not totally true, first you have to realize that organizations such as Consumer Reports (what other "unbiased" testing organization is there??) give a lot of weight to cost, noise and other factors that have little to do with the actual performance and dependability of the units.I have subscribed to ConsumerReports.org for years and always check them. This particular unit (Multi Floor) came in 4th in the testing and if you drop the noise and tool use rating (which anyone that has ever had a Dyson will tell you the tool access could use some work) it comes in first since there are only 4 points separating 1st from 4th (69 vs 65).I have owned some of the other brands and can tell you that things like emptying the canister without a cloud of dust or have to reach in and pull out hair and objects are where a Dyson excels and is not measured by these organizations. Before this turns into a novel the bottom line is that people who have used multiple brands almost without exception will love a Dyson, obviously there are exceptions to every rule but that is the general consensus. Consumer Reports says "Miele & Dyson are among the more reliable brands" (I had never heard of Miele but at $800+ it better be freakin exceptional, give rubdowns and maybe cook a meal occasionally) but for me this Dyson is a deal.UPDATE 14 MAY 2015: OK, I have read some reviews that complain about the fact they can't get under low furniture with this model ..... uh, did ya look at the picture, I have not seen hardly ANY upright vacuum that will do that BUT if you really need your upright to do something a canister does best, Dyson DOES make an attachment that will allow you to get under very low furniture I want to start out by saying this is THE Dyson. The 'full' version when it comes to power. I state that because a lot of questions, answers to questions and reviews here state a lot of stuff that just isn't true. This Dyson, the Multi Floor, is the replacement for the DC65. Just do an Amazon search on the DC65 and it will tell you it's only available through 3rd party sellers and that the Multi Floor has replaced it.There is one 3rd party seller in particular who is answering questions about the comparison of the DC65 and this Multi Floor and says this is the DC40 and that the DC65 is much more powerful. That's a bald face lie. Most likely he's left holding the bag on old stock that was overpriced by $100 and now the new version is out for $100 less, probably less than he paid for his DC65's and he's worried about that.I did some checking by googling "Dyson DC40 vs Multi Floor" and Dyson "DC65 vs Multi Floor"http://www.2compareit.com/dyson-ball-multi-floor-vs-dc40-review/http://www.2compareit.com/dyson-ball-multi-floor-vs-dc65-review/If these 2 comparisons don't convince you that the Multi Floor is the replacement for the DC65 and not the DC40, then good luck to you!! Power, weight, size, suction rating, etc. The only real difference I can see is the power cord is slightly shorter than the DC65; 'only' 30' instead of the original DC65 35'.With all that out of the way, here's my review. I have an older Dyson vac. It is the DC17 Animal with all the attachments. It worked and does still work o.k. It is very hard to push along thick carpeted floors and loads down so much doing so, it sometimes trips out it's internal thermal breaker. Eventually the thermal breaker needed replacing. Of course that was outside warranty by then! My wife was really tired of pushing it around. I was stuck with the 'heavy' vacuuming. So when this model came up on a lightning deal of some sort, I snatched it up.Testing it on a runner rug in front of our kitchen sink, trash compactor and dish washer, where our dogs regularly hang out to catch scraps as dishes are done, I fired up the Multi Floor. (A brief assembly that was easy to do preceded this testing) After vacuuming this rug, 8 x 2 sized, I emptied the new bin on some paper towels on the counter. It was shocking how much dirt and dog hair was in that rug. I pride myself on keeping floors clean. I even run a Roomba every day between my weekly vacuums. It's just me, wife and dog. No kids, guests or anyone else to add to our filth. A lot of dog hair and a lot of dust dirt was now on the towels. I tackled the rest of the house and was equally amazed how much the old vac had been leaving behind and the Roomba was incapable of picking up as well.I'm not sold on the Ball technology, but it's worlds better than the old Dyson style of slogging the vac around the room and across the floor. To move the head, lean the handle in the direction you want to go. That's opposite of the old vac where you moved it like a wheelbarrow; swing the handle left to point the head right and visa versa. Think more like steering it instead of pushing it around and you'll get the idea. Steer left, turns left. Steer right, turns right. One thing I don't care for is that it won't stay in the upright locked position when I go to move it from room to room. I unlatches and the head rests on the floor. Not a big deal. Not enough to take away a star even.I'm quite satisfied with the performance of this vacuum. It's very easy to use. Practically pulls itself across carpets and rugs. Easy to pull back too, compared to the old Dyson I had.****EDIT****I just tried to use the very expensive attachments from my older Dyson DC17 on this newer one. They don't fit!! The hose fitting is the same size as the attachment end. Evidently the old Dyson had a slightly larger fitting than this new one and now my attachments are worthless to me. I'm not about to spend a bunch of money for more attachments, so it's off to the garage to build an adapter to get these to work on the new Dyson. So attention Dyson; You really do a big disservice with your customers for not standardizing the hose and attachments on your vacuums that your customers have spent good money on.Great product. Very pleased.I had a vacuum that I bought several years ago and it was okay at best. I didn’t realize vacuums could work so well until I bought this vacuum. It doesn’t pick up big items though which is why I didn’t make it 5 star. It works with carpet and wood floors.Having used a VAX Air for the last 3 years on our fully carpeted bungalow with great effort because of the knap on the carpets we decided to purchase this Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner. Both my wife and I now find vacuuming the carpets effortlessly as this carpet cleaner glides over the carpets in any direction. The only minor fault is the red indicator light which glows when switched on stopped working but not a problem.A bit heavy for me but cleans the carpets well. The Cleaner likes it too.very easy used, perfectEasy to put together. Not too heavy to use and easy to manuevre. Suction is great, super hoover, cant think of any negatives.Absolutely delighted. It picks like a dream.
