I have an old Peavey Deuce VT Series guitar amplifier. Started it up awhile back to see what it sounded like and it had all kinds of loud static noise. I thought I would start with replacing the tubes first, before tearing into it any deeper. I ordered the required 6L6GC tubes. I chose a matched set of 4 to try to get the cleanest sound. Interesting, enough, when they came in, the boxes stated 6L6GC but the tubes were marked 6L6EH. I had no idea what the difference was, but I thought I would go ahead and try them since the socket and pins were still the same. Now I know the difference. The 6L6EH are "Modeled after the vintage RCA 6L6GC "blackplate," the 6L6EH features large plate dimensions and improved grid structure for increased power handling capabilities. Also features mica spacers with metal springs to eliminate tube rattle and microphonics. The 6L6EH offers tone and performance superior to any other 6L6 or KT66 type." Easy to install and fit great. The fit was snug but not real tight. This is of importance because the tubes are a little slimmer than the original and the metal "clip" that holds them in place does not even touch the new tubes. Since the tube are upside down, they are snug enough to keep them in the sockets. Once the amp was powered up, I thought for sure something was not working. No buzz, hum or noise of any kind. Plugged a guitar in and only got a very, very slight hum (probably from the guitar circuit). You would really have to listen for it. Amp now sounds great. Sound is clean. These babies really did the trick. Literally sounds more quiet then when it was new.
